After a stunning Christmas and New year at Mariko Boutiques in South Perth, Julleen Pearl Jewellery has introduced a fresh range for 2014. Some very unique creations in long pearl necklaces are being launched on Saturday and some very interesting designs were placed in the boutiques just last week and there are more to come. Our jewellery moves quickly at Mariko so best be the first IN line for some gorgeous “ONE OF” pieces in good quality pearls that will last the distance. I’ve been making some great new designs and also a few repeats ( that have been re -requested). This is our 14th year at the Mariko boutiques and it never ceases to amaze me how much their customers love Julleen Pearl Designs and I’m so pleased they keep coming right back, for more.
White Pearls for New Year’s Eve
Well New Year’s Eve is almost upon us and you can feel the excitement in the air. It’s a time when you know exactly with whom you will be sharing your evening and with whom you’ll be mingling. Family and people you love to be with, as always, is the best choice, as it brings in the tone for the year ahead. You’ve worked out what your are wearing and you are ready to pop that bottle of champus before the clock strikes 12 midnight. The most popular colour, as ever, to bring in the New Year seems to be White. White is fresh and crisp and is a wonderful choice in your pearl jewellery too, as it goes with absolutely everything you might want to wear. We wish all our Julleen clients and everyone around the globe a stupendous 2014! Happy New Year!

Bring in January with our heavenly Long Pearl Earring with a lovely CZ for sparkle, called January. Or chose your flirty drop pearl earring as a little white pearl will illuminate your face and give you a fresh lift to start your night, or if you have a stunning pearl necklace like Blue Heaven, it will give you just the right light look to begin your night.
New Developments in pearl science
I find some really interesting articles in my monthly jewellers trade magazine and sometimes like share to articles here with you on my pearl jewellery blog. DNA fingerprinting and age dating of pearls is something very new and is now being used by Swiss researchers at SEEFand ETHZ in Zurich, who…(can you believe it!)….were able to recover minute amounts of DNA from a wide range of pearls.
Sampled pearls were from Australia the Persian Gulf and Indonesia and from French Polynesia. It’s a practically non destructive technique to extract DNA so as to preserve the commercial value of tested historic and modern pearls. I believe something like this will positively benefit any pearl business owner or wearer as it will help identify and authenticate pearls, once and for all. This will certainly reduce the likelihood of unscrupulous merchants who say their pearls are real when in fact for example they are just shell imitations. Finally they can pin point from where the pearls you are about to purchase were first harvested. I am all for this transparency as it will surely help the industry in a very positive way. Short Hair Cuts and Long Earrings.Catching Fire!
Thank goodness some of us are chopping off those dreary and tired looking long hair styles and opting for short hair. What is wonderful about short hair is, it accentuates the face and makes you look awake , smart and sharp and dare I say…younger. Summer time is the best to go for it….as it makes us feel so much cooler. I am all for it.. as I just chopped off all my locks and am loving my new look. And what’s more, my pearl earrings look spectacular! What I love, as a jewellery designer, is how stunning long earrings look with cropped hair… just amazing!
I saw Jennifer Lawrence on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart recently (what a scream she is…and I just love that show btw). Apparently so many people were alarmed at Jennifer (who stars in the Hunger Games – Catching Fire) who had recently chopped off her long straggly locks …it was actually trending on twitter! Shock Horror…a girl… “game” enough (sorry about that) to wear a short hair do.
Here I show some magic cuts that appeal to me. And look out for woman wearing long dangling earrings with these short cuts. Love it.

Dragon Dust Bracelet
Blues and bluey greens are so prominent for Spring and it brings to mind the beauty of our Peacock pearl twist bracelets called Dragon Dust by Julleen Pearl Jewellery. We bought virtually the whole harvest of this colour as we at Julleen just adored this cultured pearl so much. This lavish Peacock blue looks especially lush when it is clustered together in multiple strands, and we think in this simple style always remains current.
Peacock pearls are always a pretty spectacular at most times and never seems to date but it’s wonderful to see the influence this colour on skin. Incredibly this colour suits anyone! We are pretty pleased that the return of anything blue is so fashionable today and are proud to reintroduce our superb collection of peacock pearl jewellery.
