Everywhere I look there seems to be people wearing a cripsy sherbert orange in tops, in dresses and some accessories. It’s a stunning happy colour, I personally love but finding jewellery to match, when you like genuine pearl jewellery is not easy. I’ve looked. This orange tone necklace is made from gorgeous orange carnelian, as it’s centre drop. It’s such a lovely design that was first created a while back which I keep coming back to with different colourings. This one has luscious gold, champagne, beige, coral and purple pearls, with golden citrines in facetted gemstone beads and a few golden chips to enhance the warmth and glow or these combined stones and lastly I’ve highlighted the look with Salmon Jade beads. Of course rich slathers of sterling silver are always part of the mix. Take a look at Julleen Jewels on Etsy and see how I’ve used these components to create the tones of Orange so popular for this up coming Summer Season in Australia.
I adore Marilyn Monroe and was brought up listening to Ella Fitzgerald. There are some obscure stories about her but this is a beauty and shows MM had soul. Apparently she was such a huge fan of Ella Fitzgerald that MM unashamedly bribed a night club owner to book Ella for a gig at his club. Marilyn told the house to book a front seat table every night. At that time black entertainers were not permitted to perform live at night clubs (a madness in those times that I still can’t understand and remember my family going to see Ella at Chequers night club in Sydney…when there was a WHITE Australia Policy and black artists in the 50’s were only permitted here.. to entertain). Franky did much for Sammy Davis Jnr we all know this… but I had no idea… until I read this article about Marilyn…that she was so creative and aided a fellow entertainer to get her chance in the spotlight. Ella was most grateful as this one gig opened many doors for her. Since that opportunity she could play anywhere any time for anyone. Marilyn true to her word …sat in the audience every night. The paparazzi at that time of course buzzed around MM where ever she went and she decided to use her celebrity status to good ends. What a gem!
The story appeals to me and it’s good to see a story about Marilyn… that shines a light on her inner strength and intelligence as a woman of immense power in her time. “Ahead of her times” as Ella once remarked. AND hey hey… just because this is my Blog about pearl jewellery…. I have added a stunning earring that reminds me so much of Marilyn. She is wearing the same style as our drop pearl earring in sterling silver called January.
I love the look of retro chic! and found this stunning image of the magnificent Peggy Lee. If you are asking who in the hell ……well people honestly!…. if you don’t know who Peggy Lee is, I am gong to explain. She was the world’s sexiest recording artist of her day, with a voice as smooth as honey and oozing what they used to call “sex appeal”. I believe her original version of “Fever” remained high on the charts for a very long time in the 50’s and her adaptation remains the best of all time (in THIS blogger’s opinion). Personally I have lovely memories of my grandparents playing this version over and over again. I thought I’d share this gorgeous photo of Peggy and show you the Retro Chic necklace I made with just this type of 50’s glamour in mind.
Chosing colours is one of the most wonderful joys of arranging your own wedding or party. I wish I could step in and help everyone with their decisions as I love this part of the organisation of a colour theme. I have spent hours and hours making jewellery in just about any colour imaginable to match any wedding theme colour. Colour has been a driving force for me to bring quality designs in pearl jewellery to shoppers world wide. Today I have chosen Lilac which is my theme across the board in all my fan pages and blogs right now. Hope you like what I’ve put together. Can’t say I haven’t thought of it myself, and would love to create some jewellery with the Game of Throne Theme. A Canadian firm of jewellery designers Pyrrha, have landed the license from HBO to release an official Game of Thrones collection of jewellery. There are some talisman necklaces for the Westeros main Houses and are priced at $226. They feature the sigil (that’s “symbol” in Game of Thrones “speak”) and the house motto. Baratheon’s crowned black stag with their motto “ours is the Fury” and the Stark direwolf with of course “Winter is coming”.
I am mad about the mother of Dragons from the Targaryen House with their three-headed Dragon and the motto “Fire and Blood” in the series. I adore Kahleesi and have made a bracelet called Khaleesi myself. However I am looking forward to seeing some of the new jewellery and seeing some people “Wearing Westeros” designs.
Truly I don’t want to get political on this blog but today I find I can’t help but sympathize with a very nice woman in Brazil who ordered some Ear Lobe Lifts for herself. I wasn’t sure whether to write about this however freedom of speech is still a right we share in this lucky country of Australia and so I thought I’d put my toe in the water and give it a shot. As time goes by, I am also learning the different ways other countries handle, landing taxes for on line sales packages or E parcels.
I’d heard some rumors that trade was difficult with Brazil but when a lady ordered some of our Secret Ear Lobe Lifts for her earlobes, I had to help her get them. I read up on the customs regulations and found that personal items for one’s own use were free from duty. Usually people who purchase this item, I suspect, already have a problem with sagging lobes, thus this item would be for personal use and a benefit to a sufferer of Droopy Ear Lobes. For years, I have been trying to spread the word that these little beauties, help prop up the ear, in an instant, and help prevent further drooping of the lobes, after all, not everyone can afford an operation or want to put sticky tape on their precious skin. Sympathy and compassion abounded and with all good sense going out the window, I decided to give it a go, to send a very tiny order to Brazil.
I used a white padded envelope, filled out a customs declaration and I sent her the product by registered post, via Australia Post. It took just a week to arrive in Brazil itself, however unfortunately, and I do mean very unfortunately, as I heard yesterday, via email from a Post Office in Brazil (AND in Portuguese !) that a case had been opened to get my very disappointed client her precious parcel. It will take 12 times that long, to have her order released from customs and only after paying taxes. Yes you heard it right people, 2- 3 months! What a calamity! I feel terribly sorry for the very sweet lady in Sao Paulo, who awaits her little Ear Lobe Lifts and continues to suffer from Droopy Ear Lobe syndrome, until then. Further more, I have sent a please “review” , to the Post Office in Brazil, through their online suggestion box, (first I had to translate the form into English from Portuguese, and then the form is translated back to Portuguese). Let’s hope it all makes good sense and makes a difference.
Having lived over seas for many years I really DO try to understand or least respect the cultures and ways of other countries but I find this story a little harder than most to comprehend. I found this little excerpt from researching the cultures of Brazil, fascinating. Time is the key ingredient very similar to the traditions in Bali, Indonesia. Do not try to rush them into making decisions. Now that’s something I have learned today. Here’s the quote……
• In business, Brazilians tend to ‘deal’ with individuals, not companies. Therefore, you will need to establish a trusting relationship with them if you wish to gain their business. It is important that you do not try to rush them into making decisions or forming relationships.
UPDATE the customer finally received her lovely Secret Lobe Lift Earrings last Friday. Success! am very pleased to report
Autumn is definitely here people..the streets with tree lined avenues are strewn with dropped leaves..I am more inclined to admire the overall look of the colours of autumn and actually like seeing this time over year as it brings so many glorious brown shades. I created these earrings, not only for my true admiration of nature, which sits firmly entrenched in the physchi of most artists and artisans http://www.karentharp.com/#!autumn
I am as pleased as punch to say my new updated article (or Lens as the Squidoo people call) has been republished on Squidoo. I think it’s looking and sounding better than ever. Please go take a look and feel free to write some comments if you like what you see. It’s all about how I created the fantasy winged earring and used bright green agates to create a Green chandelier earring. Go check it out.
