Just when you think you have seen every possible White Pearl Earring on the planet you find there are loads more to enjoy. I have a real thing about creating completely different pearl jewellery but when it comes to the White Pearl Earring I have gone to town.

If the Julleen Pearl Jewellery range isn’t one of the biggest variety and collections of White Pearl and Sterling Earrings made by one designer label, then honestly I don’t know what designer label would do bigger and what’s more, better!

Pearl Jewellery is my true passion in life. I am sure I drive some people mad as I must mention my jewellery making every day. I strive to make an earring last for a life time and for a design that is only meant for the person who buys it. This is why many of my earrings are one’s OF and my customers return two decades on, yet have their original pieces still. Some with a bit of colour added in the way of a stone like a garnet or peridot but basically a beautiful white pearl earring in Sterling Silver or with gold vermeil added over the sterling.

I really love using colours when making pearl jewellery. Creating a look that no one else would dare to try is my favourite thing. I wanted an Art Deco look and wanted to use a bit lime green with black against the stark beauty of white genuine pearls. Introducing the Designer set called Groovy. I used some cute Lime Crystal beads in both the earrings and the necklace I think it goes beautifully with the Black Wood Pendant and button pearls. It has a type of Deco feel to it and it certainly is something you will never see anywhere else.

Christmas time brings inspiration sometimes. I just made the perfect Earring. A double white pearl drop bezel set and tear drop sterling silver earring. I thought I would share it here. I have always liked star fish and really it makes for the perfect fit with pearls and so I created a substantial large pink pearl bracelet that even has a seaman’s hook clasp. All the components match well with a nautical theme.

When I first made the peacock green pearl twist necklace I knew at the time it was a spectacular piece that every one would just adore and have for decades to come. This necklace was first worn by beautiful Teresa in 2005. Here we are in 2018! and she just sent me a image to let me see how it is doing and how often she still wears her favourite Julleen pearl necklace.

One of the most beautiful and gemstones in the semi precious genre has got to be Citrine. These days many shades of citrine are available to most jewellery makers. I have used lemon and pale yellow citrine but just recently I created a stunning pendant which included one baroque gold pearl and a huge golden citrine. The gold pearls I use here is one of the first purchases I made when I first started Julleen Pearl Jewellery.

Now what to do with this fabulous pendant? I could of course make it easy on myself and just thread it onto a plain white pearl necklace or even just thread it over a chain. Nah Ah. Not me. I want to build a fine designer piece around the pendant and so began by choosing more of the golden pearl that highlights this stunning 22 ct Golden Citrine. Adding  some champagne, cram and white pearls and copious amounts of sterling silver spacers, Voila after about a half a days’ work, this is the result!

Happy is the girl who wears a pearl. No argument here, most girls prefer a pearl earring to any other earring on the planet. It is the most popular organic gem in the world besides diamonds. Pearls highlight the skin and suit just about anyone who wears them. A pearl stud earring immediately adds style, grace and class to anyone wearing it and it makes you feel and look fabulous every minute of the day.

Besides the white pearl stud earring we have some stunning colours including  pink, black, bronze and aqua! for someone who wants a variation of the look.

Bronze Pearl Jewellery has always been quite rare but I find when I make it people just love it.  Over many years there has been a real following for this charming colour pearl. It really is from the black pearl variety yet also has gold tones to it, that are so vibrant and alive you would swear it comes from gold based pearls. As with most of the unusual colours, it has a mixture of hues that create a rich Copper and Bronze pearl.

They seem to have a type of renaissance feel to them and I find many artists and those who appreciate art, just adore the warm glows that bronze freshwater pearls create. As an designer I love adding a contrasting gemstone Bead like the Blue of Lapis or the Green in Jade and orange of Coral and the bright blue of Turquoise – just to be a little different from the rest!

The mabe or blister pearl is an ancient method of pearl harvesting. The stunning effect created, looks like half a huge pearl. However it is a blister created by the oyster with the help of man (cultured pearling).

 

To form a Mabe or blister pearl, a small base usually a dome or in some instances, tiny figures like the above Buddhas, are placed delicately on the shell of the oyster or mussel, rather than within the fleshy part, of the shell creature, as in cultivating or even finding natural full pearls. The irritation acts exactly the same as that of the creation of solid pearl. The intruder soon gathers nacreous layers, (pearl surface). The result is the nacre produced looks like a blister. The blisters are painstakingly removed and delicately mounted on half domes with backs hidden and then sheathed with a Mother of Pearl base for it to sit before adding to jewellery. This cultured pearl dome or the Buddhas are complete. Voila! the Mabe is BORN.

There are nautilus mabes, seen in the ring and green oval pendant below and mabes left in their own bezel. There are colourful mabes, pink, golds, greens and blues, sometimes a grey one if you can find it and of course white mabes and even blacks, that I have set over many years.
